PDO Threads Q&A
Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are absorbable sutures made of a biocompatible material. When injected in strategic ways, these sutures can lift and tighten the skin in your middle and lower face — the same areas that a surgical face-lift traditionally treats, which is why it's sometimes called a PDO thread-lift.
PDO threads can also target the upper parts of your face, like the skin around your eyes or your forehead, if needed.
In addition to lifting your skin, PDO threads also stimulate collagen growth inside your deeper skin layers. The collagen grows gradually over many months, which means that you'll have natural skin support in place as the PDO threads eventually dissolve.
There are several types of PDO threads, including smooth, barbed, and screw textures. Each texture has its own particular uses. Your provider can recommend the right type of PDO threads for you based on your ultimate treatment goals and degree of skin sagging.
PDO threads are injected using very slim hollow needles. Thanks to local anesthesia, you won't find this process painful.
Your provider injects the PDO threads in a specific pattern — often a meshlike design — that provides maximum skin support. After all the threads are in the optimal positions, your provider trims any excess thread. You won't be able to see the threads underneath your skin.
After a PDO thread-lift, you can generally go back to your normal routine right away.
Compassionate Health Med Spa provides you with any specific instructions you need to follow after your procedure. For example, you'll need to refrain from rubbing your face or sleeping on your side or stomach to prevent thread shifting.
PDO threads dissolve gradually within about 6-9 months, but because they help you grow new collagen, your results remain. Most people enjoy 1-3 years of great results, depending on the type of PDO threads used in the procedure.
If you follow a thread-lift with a procedure like Ultherapy®, which uses ultrasonic energy pulses to heat your dermal skin layer, you can maximize the results and longevity of your thread-lift.
You can also combine PDO threads with dermal fillers or neurotoxin injections for additional skin tightening and lifting.

Dermal Fillers Q&A
Dermal fillers are injectables that increase volume in select areas of your face. Compassionate Health Med Spa uses the leading dermal fillers, including Juvéderm XC, Juvéderm Ultra Plus, and other products in the Juvéderm family, Restylane®, and Belotero Balance®, all of which have hyaluronic acid as their active ingredient.Â
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that your body makes on its own. It attracts water and helps to maintain skin moisture and firmness. But, hyaluronic acid levels decrease over the years, which can contribute to lines and wrinkles.
Dermal fillers can place hyaluronic acid in specific areas where you need volume. They work instantly and can combine well with other treatments, such as neurotoxin injections.Â
Dermal fillers can achieve three main goals.Â
Reducing the signs of aging
Dermal fillers excel at diminishing the signs of aging instantly. They can treat both smaller lines (rhytids) and deeper facial creases and wrinkles. Some of the most popular treatment areas include the nasolabial folds (smile lines), glabellar creases (between brows), and forehead lines.Â
Improving facial structure
Dermal fillers can improve your facial structure in many ways, from creating more prominent cheekbones to defining your jawline and filling in sunken or thin cheeks.Â
Enhancing lips
Dermal fillers can add lip fullness, improve lip contour, and minimize fine lines in and around the lips.Â
There are also other areas of the face that may need dermal filler treatment, based on your goals. Share your concerns and wishes with your Compassionate Health Med Spa provider so they can recommend the dermal filler treatment that will help you look your best.
Compassionate Health Med Spa offers a topical anesthetic product to numb your skin prior to the injections. Your provider uses an ultrathin hypodermic needle to inject the dermal filler precisely where you need it.Â
Juvéderm, Restylane, and Belotero Balance all contain lidocaine, an anesthetic that significantly reduces discomfort during the injection process. The treatment process is comfortable, and it takes less than an hour.Â
After treatment, you’ll have some mild swelling, but you’ll see the full results within four weeks. The results last anywhere from 3-24 months depending on the filler and the place where it’s injected.

Laser Treatment Q&A
At Compassionate Health Med Spa, laser treatment refers to a wide range of light-based treatments to enhance and restore your appearance. The Spectrum is a multifunctional system that includes both intense pulsed light (IPL) and four different lasers.Â
With IPL, flashes of light target skin concerns and encourage skin regeneration. With laser, beams of concentrated light target unwanted hair or tattoo pigment for effective removal.Â
Compassionate Health Med Spa offers a range of laser and IPL treatments, including:
Skin resurfacing
Skin resurfacing treatments use IPL to gently remove the outer layers of your skin, where sun damage, age spots, freckles, fine lines, and other issues occur.Â
IPL also encourages collagen remodeling in the deeper layers of your skin to improve skin firmness and tightness. This treatment reveals your new, healthy, and fresh-looking skin.Â
Pigmented and vascular lesion removal
IPL can effectively treat pigmented lesions — age spots, sun spots, freckles, and melasma — and vascular lesions — tiny threadlike veins — in a photofacial treatment. The light breaks up the melanin, which gives pigmented lesions their color, so you eliminate it over time.Â
With vascular lesions like rosacea, the light closes off the blood vessels involved, so the lesion fades soon afterward.Â
Acne treatment
IPL treatment can work to control acne in two ways. It targets and destroys acne-causing bacteria, which prevents new acne breakouts from happening.
Additionally, the treatment fights inflammation, which in turn reduces the redness around breakouts.Â
Hair removal
For removal of unwanted hair, laser light targets hair at its root. This destroys the follicle and inhibits regrowth. Thanks to the flexibility of the Spectrum system, you can remove hair from both smaller areas like the upper lip and larger areas like the legs.Â
The laser has a cooled tip, which reduces warmth and discomfort during treatment. You’ll also receive topical anesthetic for particularly sensitive areas like the bikini line.Â
Tattoo removal
The Q-Switched Yag/KTP laser in the Spectrum system uses two different wavelengths of light energy to target any color of tattoo ink at any depth in your skin for permanent ink removal. Once broken down, you eliminate the ink particles naturally in the coming months.
Treatments generally take just 20-30 minutes in the Compassionate Health Med Spa office.Â
In most cases, you’ll have at least a few treatment sessions to get the desired results. For example, with laser hair removal, you need a series of treatments scheduled at least six weeks apart. Compassionate Health Med Spa can create a laser or IPL treatment plan to help you get the ideal results based on your specific skin needs.Â

Neurotoxin Injections Q&A
Neurotoxins are injectable substances with an active ingredient called botulinum toxin. This toxin acts on the nerves to bring on paralysis in the specific areas where injected.Â
Because many lines and wrinkles come from muscle movements, neurotoxins are a highly effective treatment. These substances work by blocking the nerve signals to the muscles, which stops the movements that cause wrinkles. This, in turn, smooths wrinkles:
- In the forehead area
- Between eyebrows
- Around the eyes
While very large doses of botulinum toxin are dangerous, neurotoxin injections require only the tiniest of doses to have excellent results. The FDA first approved injectable botulinum toxin in 2002, at which time they verified that this substance is safe for injection in the face.
Compassionate Health Med Spa offers two main options in neurotoxin injections, Botox and Xeomin. The two products are extremely similar, with one main difference: Botox contains accessory proteins while Xeomin contains only botulinum toxin.Â
With Botox, you can potentially build up immunity over time, which could render the treatments ineffective. Because Xeomin contains no additives, you’re far less likely to build up a resistance.Â
While both Botox and Xeomin have the same effects in terms of reducing muscle movement and wrinkles, some people respond better to one or the other.Â
Neurotoxin injections are a good choice for wrinkle reduction and prevention if you have mild-to-moderate lines and wrinkles. These injections only work on the lines and wrinkles that happen because of muscle movement.Â
So, if you have deep lines and wrinkles from volume loss, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines) around the mouth and nose, dermal fillers are a better choice because they can replace the volume.Â
Botox and Xeomin usually last for at least several months — up to four months in many people. You can maintain your results — a natural-looking wrinkle reduction that brings out your inner beauty — by having touch-ups at Compassionate Health Med Spa about three times a year.Â
To get natural-looking wrinkle correction with almost immediate results, call Compassionate Health Med Spa or click the online scheduling tool to book your neurotoxin injections.
