What are PDO threads?

Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are absorbable sutures made of a biocompatible material. When injected in strategic ways, these sutures can lift and tighten the skin in your middle and lower face — the same areas that a surgical face-lift traditionally treats, which is why it's sometimes called a PDO thread-lift.

PDO threads can also target the upper parts of your face, like the skin around your eyes or your forehead, if needed.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectables that increase volume in select areas of your face. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that your body makes on its own. It attracts water and helps to maintain skin moisture and firmness. But, hyaluronic acid levels decrease over the years, which can contribute to lines and wrinkles.

Dermal fillers can place hyaluronic acid in specific areas where you need volume. They work instantly and can combine well with other treatments, such as neurotoxin injections.

Dermal fillers can achieve three main goals.

What is laser treatment?

At Compassionate Health Med Spa, laser treatment refers to a wide range of light-based treatments to enhance and restore your appearance. The Spectrum is a multifunctional system that includes both intense pulsed light (IPL) and four different lasers.

With IPL, flashes of light target skin concerns and encourage skin regeneration. With laser, beams of concentrated light target unwanted hair or tattoo pigment for effective removal.

What are the different laser and IPL treatment options?

Skin resurfacing

Skin resurfacing treatments use IPL to gently remove the outer layers of your skin, where sun damage, age spots, freckles, fine lines, and other issues occur.

IPL also encourages collagen remodeling in the deeper layers of your skin to improve skin firmness and tightness. This treatment reveals your new, healthy, and fresh-looking skin.

Pigmented and vascular lesion removal

IPL can effectively treat pigmented lesions — age spots, sun spots, freckles, and melasma — and vascular lesions — tiny threadlike veins — in a photofacial treatment. The light breaks up the melanin, which gives pigmented lesions their color, so you eliminate it over time.

Neurotoxin Injections Q&A

What are neurotoxin injections?

Neurotoxins are injectable substances with an active ingredient called botulinum toxin. This toxin acts on the nerves to bring on paralysis in the specific areas where injected.

Because many lines and wrinkles come from muscle movements, neurotoxins are a highly effective treatment. These substances work by blocking the nerve signals to the muscles, which stops the movements that cause wrinkles. This, in turn, smooths wrinkles:

While very large doses of botulinum toxin are dangerous, neurotoxin injections require only the tiniest of doses to have excellent results. The FDA first approved injectable botulinum toxin in 2002, at which time they verified that this substance is safe for injection in the face.

What are the different options in neurotoxin injections?

Compassionate Health Med Spa offers two main options in neurotoxin injections, Botox and Xeomin. The two products are extremely similar, with one main difference: Botox contains accessory proteins while Xeomin contains only botulinum toxin.

With Botox, you can potentially build up immunity over time, which could render the treatments ineffective. Because Xeomin contains no additives, you’re far less likely to build up a resistance.

While both Botox and Xeomin have the same effects in terms of reducing muscle movement and wrinkles, some people respond better to one or the other.

Am I a good candidate for neurotoxin injections?

Neurotoxin injections are a good choice for wrinkle reduction and prevention if you have mild-to-moderate lines and wrinkles. These injections only work on the lines and wrinkles that happen because of muscle movement.

So, if you have deep lines and wrinkles from volume loss, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines) around the mouth and nose, dermal fillers are a better choice because they can replace the volume.

How long do the results of neurotoxin injections last?
