Neurotoxin injections

Neurotoxins are injectable substances with an active ingredient called botulinum toxin. This toxin acts on the nerves to bring on paralysis in the specific areas where injected. 

Because many lines and wrinkles come from muscle movements, neurotoxins are a highly effective treatment. These substances work by blocking the nerve signals to the muscles, which stops the movements that cause wrinkles. This, in turn, smooths wrinkles:

• In the forehead area
• Between eyebrows
• Around the eyes

While very large doses of botulinum toxin are dangerous, neurotoxin injections require only the tiniest of doses to have excellent results. The FDA first approved injectable botulinum toxin in 2002, at which time they verified that this substance is safe for injection in the face.

Compassionate Health Med Spa offers two main options in neurotoxin injections, Botox and Xeomin. The two products are extremely similar, with one main difference: Botox contains accessory proteins while Xeomin contains only botulinum toxin. 

With Botox, you can potentially build up immunity over time, which could render the treatments ineffective. Because Xeomin contains no additives, you’re far less likely to build up a resistance. 

While both Botox and Xeomin have the same effects in terms of reducing muscle movement and wrinkles, some people respond better to one or the other. 

Neurotoxin injections are a good choice for wrinkle reduction and prevention if you have mild-to-moderate lines and wrinkles. These injections only work on the lines and wrinkles that happen because of muscle movement. 

So, if you have deep lines and wrinkles from volume loss, such as nasolabial folds (smile lines) around the mouth and nose, dermal fillers are a better choice because they can replace the volume.
