Keralase

Scalp Revitalization & Healthy Hair Growth

Wash your hair with shampoo (no conditioner!) the night before the treatment. Hair must be clean and free of hair products at the time of treatment.

Stay out of the sun and use sun protection (SPF sunblock or hat) as much as possible for a week before and after each treatment. After the treatment, you may notice hairs in the telogen phase (resting phase) may shed due to the slight trauma from the laser. This does not occur regularly, but do not be alarmed if it occurs. Please notify your provider.

Once the hair and scalp dry naturally, you can resume normal activities including the application of hair products. Avoid washing your hair for 24 hours after the treatment.

Use KeraFactorTM Scalp Stimulating Solution, KeraFactorTM Scalp Stimulating Shampoo & Conditioner and other products as directed by your practitioner. What is KeraFactor serum?

Based on 6 years of extensive research to address thinning hair, this patent-pending formula combines a very specific set of 7 bio-identical growth factors for scalp revitalization, wrapped in a nanoliposome "shell" for increased absorption, that are typically deficient in skin during times of hair loss or poor hair health. Other topical products include only a few growth factors and no other commercially available topical includes the complete set included in the KeraFactor formula, a proprietary and patented technology that allows for significantly higher concentrations of each growth factor.

What is a growth factor and how were they selected?
Growth factors include polypeptides and proteins that stimulate the growth of specific tissues, such as hair follicles, blood vessels, etc. Everyone has these polypeptides and proteins occurring in small concentrations. As cells naturally age and die, these nutrients are necessary to assist in the process of replacing old cells with new ones.

Initial research showed that most people with thinning hair are deficient in certain key growth factors, which KeraFactor contains. Additionally, these people may also have too much of other growth factors that actually inhibit the growth associated with hair and scalp health, and therefore, KeraFactor does not contain these potentially growth-inhibiting factors. In the past, some of the 7 growth factors included in the KeraFactor serum have been very difficult to synthesize. As a result, available topical formulations do not have these growth factors, or they have very low concentrations. Through a proprietary and patented manufacturing process, all 7 growth factors are able to be synthesized in high concentrations, resulting in the KeraFactor formula - the only family of products that includes all of these 7 growth factors and each in high concentration.

What is the benefit of adding energy-based devices like Lutronic's LaseMD and Ultra, AKA Keralase?
One of the key functions of the skin is to protect the interior of the body from toxins, injury, etc. The nanoliposomes that encapsulate KeraFactor growth factors increase absorption into the skin - nonetheless, the skin resists penetration of the product. Lutronic's LaseMD and Ultra prepare the skin for increased absorption by creating micro-columns of tissue in the epidermis and upper dermis of the scalp through a 5-10 minute treatment with little-to-no discomfort or downtime, allowing the product to penetrate much deeper than using the product alone. In addition to increasing the skin's absorption of the KeraFactor formula, Lutronic's LaseMD and Ultra systems provide independent skin treatment - why not enjoy the benefits of both?

What results should I expect from Keralase?
While everyone is different, improvement in scalp health and an increase in the appearance of thicker, healthier hair may be visible within 3 months when patients follow the treatment protocol as prescribed. Most patients see even more improvement over the next 2-4 months. We cannot guarantee a response for ALL patients.

Will it look natural? What about hair transplant patients?
The KeraFactor formula provides nutrients to the hair follicles and improved scalp circulation for natural-looking, healthy hair. Transplanted hair follicles will benefit from absorption of growth factors and skin proteins in the same manner as existing hair follicles.

How do KeraLase treatments work?
Each treatment session will begin with a scalp treatment using the Lutronic LaseMD or Ultra, followed immediately by the application of the KeraFactor serum. There are two recommended courses of treatment options, your physician will work with you to determine which option is best for you:

  • 1 treatment session every 2 weeks for 12 weeks (6 total treatments). You may also use the KeraFactor Shampoo at home each day between treatments.
  • 1 treatment session every month for 3 months (3 total treatments) AND using the KeraFactor Shampoo at home, morning and evening, each day between treatments.

What is the difference between KeraFactor Serum and Shampoo?
The serum and shampoo include the same KeraFactor formulation. The serum is highly concentrated and is to be used following skin preparation by Lutronic LaseMD or Ultra. The shampoo is less concentrated and is to be used in-between office treatments, to be applied morning and evening.

What happens when/if a patient stops using KeraFactor serum?
To date, there have not been long-term studies. However, there is anecdotal evidence showing that results may be maintained for up to 18 months after stopping the use of KeraFactor products. Once patients finish the recommended treatment protocol, it is advised that they continue using the take-home shampoo to maintain the results. Your physician may recommend in-office "touch-up" treatments.

How does KeraFactor differ from using PRP?
PRP, or Platelet-Rich Plasma, is a painful, 45-minute procedure where blood is drawn from the patient, spun in a centrifuge to increase the patient's platelets, then applied or injected into the scalp with inconsistent results. Only the growth factors available in the patient's own blood will be released. If a patient is highly deficient in any of the growth factors needed for hair health, the PRP procedure may not be effective. Additionally, one of the common growth factors found in blood may block the transition of hair follicles into the new growth phase, actually inhibiting growth. In contrast, KeraFactor products include a proprietary formula with high concentrations of bio-identical growth factors and skin proteins customized for people with thinning hair.

Who is a good candidate for Keralase treatments?
Concerns over hair loss have increased in recent years due to frequent use of "selfies" and social medial apps. Men and women of all ages with thinning hair can benefit from Keralase treatments.

Who is not a good candidate for Keralase treatments?

  • People who currently have or have been diagnosed with skin cancer should not use KeraFactor products without their physician's approval.
  • People with an active infection should not be treated with KeraFactor products.
  • People who experience an allergic reaction to KeraFactor products should discontinue use immediately and be examined by a dermatologist.

Microneedling

Improve Skin Texture & Radiance

Pre-Treatment Instructions:

  • Reveal any medical conditions such as pregnancy, cold sore and fever blister tendencies, any type of allergy, recent facial peels or surgery, and all current medications (including both prescriptions and over-the-counter products) such as Accutane, tetracycline, hormone replacement therapy, or use of Retin-A.
  • The patient must quit taking Accutane for 6 months prior to having a PiXel8-RF micro-needing treatment.
  • DO NOT perform a PiXel8-RF Micro-needling treatment on a patient if he/she has an electronic implant (Insulin pump, pacemaker, LVAD, etc.).
  • Do not use self-tanning lotions or tanning booths two weeks prior to your PiXel8-RF treatment. Do not sunbathe two weeks prior to your appointment.
  • Do not use any irritating skin care products such as Retin-A or OBAGI for one week prior to treatment.
  • Avoid taking NSAIDs such as Advil, Motrin, Aleve, aspirin for 1 week prior to scheduled procedure.
  • Areas of dental crowns, caps, braces, or other metal dental implants may be more sensitive to the treatment and the clinician may use gauze or a tongue depressor to isolate the area to make the treatment more comfortable.

Micro-Needling Post Procedure

Immediately after your Micro-Needling procedure, do not take any anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, Motrin or Advil. These agents will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for your skin rejuvenation. Follow these simple steps:

Day of procedure: No lotions, makeup or other topical products on your face before your procedure. After your procedure your medical provider may apply a lipo-peptide booster, skin moisturizer, and sun screen. You may clean your face with a gentle cleanser before bed.

Day 1: On the next day, you may clean your face as usual and apply makeup, lotions and other topical products as usual. Stay away from exfoliants or glycolic acids that are present in cleaners as these can make your skin very dry after the procedure. Be sure to use an approved SPF30 or greater sunscreen!
Days 2-7: Within two (2) days following your Micro-Needling procedure, you will notice skin dryness and flaking. This is due to an increased turnover of skin cells. During this period, you may apply your regular skin moisturizer. Follow the instructions given to you by your medical professional. If your medical professional used the roller or needle device around the eyes, you may have a little micro bruising that may exist for three or four days. This can easily be covered with makeup.
Days later, your skin will start shedding. These are skin layers that would regularly shed a week later, but the Micro-Needling brings this skin to the surface sooner. During this temporary process, your skin will shed and be dry.
Days 7+: A week after the Micro-Needling procedure, most patients notice that their skin is smoother and more radiant.

Results vary, but usually a course of 1-3 treatments (maximum of 5, depending on the condition being treated) is typically recommended. If you require MORE procedures than this, you may have an unrecognized underlying medical condition and should consult with your provider. Of course, results may vary from patient to patient. Keep in mind that the healthier your body is, the better will be the results you achieve from a Micro-Needling procedure. Your body's function and overall health are reflected in your skin.
